Paradoxically - the best tip for a great stay in Brunei is to ingore lots of the advice you get! Everyone one is different and has their own idea of what makes a good life. Just try be open minded and take the advice that seems to suit you.
Emergency Lights
It was years before we found out about these. You plug them into the mains which enables them to store up power. If the power goes off (which does happen quite frequently in some areas) the lights come on. They are easy to find in most electrical goods stores. Surge Protect Your Computer
We get huge thunderstorms and it is not uncommon for lightening to hit an area and fry every modem for miles.
Presents for Children
Not at all essential but, if you have young children then it might be an idea to bring a stock of small gifts to give as birthday gifts to other children at parties etc. Whether you do this obviously depends on where you are coming from and how much free space you have in your freight. There is stuff available here, however, the variety is limited and not always of great quality.
